Running xorg on a serial console

Ladies & Gentlemen,

I have done some looking on the web trying to find out if the xserver will run over a serial console like it was a remote desktop. I have not found anything where such a thing is even talked about. So I have assumed that it is not practicle or will not work at all. But I do want to really confirm one way or the other.

I was hoping to run a Lemon-Point-of-Sale station which requires KDE on a serial console. The environment is quite dusty and dirty and a the serial console would be less problematic in that environment, so....

Any input?

Thanks

Absolutely not. A serial terminal is a very, very, slow text-only interface. There is no graphic support of any kind.

Thanks MS3FGX

It is interesting that serial ports are often called High Speed if they are so slow. I have seen such references numerous times all over the web.

So I gather that the benifit over the vga port for servers is that the serial port is hot plugable since ages past, and since most linux sereves don't run a gui anyway the lack of gui support is no biggie.
