running programs in background

I'm running Redhat 9.0 with the KDE3.1 desktop... i want to run Paralogger on my desktop to monitor my logs.

I want it to autostart with xwindows and run in the background (no task bar opened in panel). It will also need some kinda root priveleges to be able to view /var/log/secure and /var/log/messages

Any ideas here?

Thanks in advance,
