Running mIRC with Wine

I'm trying to run mIRC with Wine. It seems to run ok, except when I open the script editor it pops up a message titled "exception raised" saying "Assertion failed at address 0xffffe410 do you wish to debug it?" Whether you say yes or no, it then closes mIRC.

Using mIRC is pointless to me if I can't use the script editor. Does anyone know what to do to fix this?

Running anything in WINE should be a last resort, I've had mixes results with everything I've ever tried in WINE. And frankly mIRC is terrible and there are much better, native alternatives on Linux.

I've never seen anything better than mIRC on Linux. I've been using xchat for a while but I have an mIRC script I worked on for three years that I'd like to use.

It took a little weening for me to get away from mIRC as well, but once you get comfortable with xchat, bitchx, irssi (my current favorite), etc you'll wonder how you ever dealt with having to run mIRC all of those years. And most of the Linux clients are better for scripting because they let you use perl.

Chatzilla is a good one to mention too....although it depends on Firefox (it is actually a Firefox extension). I used to use it until I switched to Opera, then I switched to X-Chat.

Yes, and not to be rude, but good luck! Running anything with Wine isn't exactly the easiest thing in the world. In-fact, it just downright doesn't work most of the time.

the way i'm going to "solve" this is create a regular dialog.. as those seem to open fine, and make it a script editor.. so if you want it when i'm finished + to beta test it pmsg me
