Running Jedit

I am trying to run jedit. I am pretty sure java is set up properly as everything else that uses java is working. However when I try to run Jedit, i get the following error.

jEdit: jedit.jar not in class path!
[warning] jEdit: Assuming jEdit is installed in /home/XXXXX.
[warning] jEdit: Override with jedit.home system property.

Not sure exactly what this means.
Can anyone point me in the right path.
BTW I am using Debian SID

I had a similar problem with java apps (azureus) about how java wasn't detected, but it just turned out I had spaces in the pathname where azureus was located.

Try this:

java -jar /path/to/jedit.jar
