Smile Running Existing Windows Install on VMWare

Hello everyone!

I am using Debian and would like to install VMWare so that I can run Windows from within Linux. Currently, both Debian and Windows XP are installed and dual booting (using GRUB), and work fine. I have seen that VMWare basically allows the virtualization of restarting a computer and loading a different OS.

Will I be able to do this with VMWare (from within Linux, open VMWare, do a virtual reboot, choose Windows XP in the GRUB Bootloader, and then have a window with XP loaded in it)?

If so, do I need the server or the player (or both?)

Thank you!

I think that you have to install VMWare and then install Windows to it. VMWare creates a virtual machine which is not the same as the physical HW you are using.

I have seen that VMWare basically allows the virtualization of restarting a computer and loading a different OS.
I have never seen virtualization described this way.

Any clues from the documentation?
