runlevel & graphival boot

Recently i've installed Gentoo Linux. I chose kdm for graphical login, but i also want to be able to login with command line. With Fedora and MDK the default runlevel was 5th, and for non-graphical login, i simply added "3" to /boot/grub/grub.conf right after "kernel" keyword. With Gentoo it's different! I have to boot with 2nd runlevel for non-graphical login, cause default runlevel is 3rd , but in this case the network is not available!
Maybe it's possible to somehow redefine runlevels?! Or maybe there is other solution to my problem?
Thank You!

You can change the default runlevel in /etc/inittab.

Here is an explanation

Thanks!
I've changed the default runlevel to 5, and chose different name for 3rd runlevel. But it i also had to add new directory to /etc/runlevels, copy all the stuff form /etc/runlevels/default, except xdm.
It wasn't very hard!
