Run script when monitor donnected/disconnected

Anyone know how I can cause a script to run whenever a monitor is plugged in or disconnected?

I'm running Debian 6 stable LXDE. I want to use this to send commands to xrandr to turn off my laptop monitor when an external one is connected and to maximise resolution of the external monitor.

Ta much!

im NOT too smart about this stuff but maybe i can give some ideas...

possibly some kind of "if" "else" statement and for the if statement, I think it would have to detect if an RGA is in use in the /dev section... than some command in the brackets{} to disable it... I think you would have to compile it?

Humm now im going to try to do this
