Run a command across a cluster

If I have an application that I want to start up on each node of a cluster, how do I get the process to go into the background?

We use rsh and we have a simple script called "brsh" that steps thru each node in the cluster and runs a command. I have tried:

brsh ‘myapplication &’

But that doesn’t seem to work...

The processes are daemons and I need the brsh command to start all of them but it waits on the first one and never steps thru the rest until the first process ends (or dies).

Any ideas? I assume there is some shell scripting way of doing it.

Instead of executing the daemon directly, try using the service command.

service <servicename> start

I am not familiar with that command, where can I find out more about it? (I didn't find a man page for it on my system)

On my system, the package that installs it is called initscripts. It might be distro dependant. It should be located in /sbin/service. You need to be root to run it, and maybe access it.
The original version was written by Red Hat, so you should have it.

Code:
Usage: service -[Rfshv] SERVICE ARGUMENTS
-f|--full-restart: Do a fullrestart of the service.
-R|--full-restart-all: Do a fullrestart of all services currently running.
-s|--status-all: Print a status of all services.
        -d|--debug: Launch with debug.
        -h|--help: This help.
        -v|--version: Print version.
