Rubrica groups doesn't work

I have installed Rubrica 2.0-1.1 via the Synaptic Package Manager. I am using Ubuntu 9.10.

For some reason the groups do not seem to work at all. I add a group and some weird characters show up in the groups window. When I assign a group to a person it saves the info in the xml file but the groups window is still empty and doesn't show any groups?

has anyone seen this issue and know how to fix it?

Yes, I asked this question there too but have not had any replies. From what I have read, the developer builds on Fedora/Gnome and only creates .rpm packages. He is currently up to version 2.0.8.

The packages for Debian (.deb) are 2.0.1. I like the application but the groups window just doesn't work for some reason. I will continue to store my addresses using this app but I sure would like to have that groups window funtioning.
