RTCW sound synchronization
 

I just installed Return to Castle Wolfenstein on my SuSe 7.3
the game is alright no problems whatsoever (graphically speaking)
the sound seems a bit out of synchronization though, my sound card is a sound blaster pci128 on a dual PIII 1 Gig , 256 Ram
and a Geforce 2.

has anyone come across this problem ?
or got any idea how to get around this?

I've got a vibra 128 pci and have not noticed any issues with RTCW, do you get the same problem with any other games/apps?

Yes, i have tried other apps and there is no problem,
i even tried playing a audio cd and there is no probs
weird isn't?
I have read that linux uses 2 kind of sound servers ALSA and OSS]
(I am correct right?)
Would i t make any difference if i switch the server?

where can i buy it?

the binaries to install the game can be found in ID's website ( www.idsoftware.com)
the only problem is that you'll need to copy some files needed for the game from a win32 intallation.

You have to copy some files from a win32 install of RTCW. I don't know why they didn't go the same way as they did with q3a, I had to install wine to copy the files because I don't have windoze on my box.

does anyone have a howto?
i just can`t get it running!

Howto:

1. install RTCW on a windows machine.

2. Boot up linux and download the binaries from somewhere like 3dgamers. If you just want to play the demo, they have both multiplayer and single player demos. If you have the full game then download the newest linux binary, I believe its 1.31. Install the binary(you may have to change permmisions to make it executable)

3. Copy over then .pk3 files from your windows install directory c:\Programs\wolfestein\main\ something like that.
If you dual boot then you may be able to mount your windows drive: mount -t vfat /dev/hda1 /mnt . You will need to put the pk3 files in usally /usr/local/games/wolfestein/main/

4. Start the game: wolfmp for multiplayer, and wolfsp for single player.

You will need to have accelerated grafics drivers to play the game. I use a GF2-MX400 and use the drivers from nvidia
