RTCW real jumpy and low fps

Hi, changed to slackware 8.1 from Redhat 7.3 recently and now having trouble with RTCW.

- I have installed latest drivers from nvidia.
- Running latest version of RTCW (1.33)
- Run and says everything is OK

The game looks ok, nice and clear but real slow and jerky, looking around with the mouse (swinging view) is ok. But runing around is real jerky.

The FPS seem to bounce so fast you can barely read what it is at but seems between 20-40 and under redhat I got around 80-120..

Anyone got any ideas of what could be wrong and what i could try to do to clean this up.

P.S. kinda off topic but this is not an overall system problem as everything else other than 3d games is much faster since switched to slackware.
