RTAI kernel can't find hard disk at boot, but normal kernel can

Dear all

I am/will be using a toshiba satellite L300 with a PCMCIA parallel port card to control my home built cnc machine. I used the kernel supplied by the emc install script, 2.6.24-rtai. It will not detect my hard disk, dropping to an intramfs shell complaining the device has not been found by uuid or my /dev/sda1. any ideas? also, when i try and boot the emc2 live cd, it freezes and drops into an intramfs shell. i *think* with the same errors. i would really like help on this as my cnc machine is useless without a PC

regards

james
