rsync

Do i need this to run? It appears the someone on the outside like a hacker is trying to get rsync to run i get entries in my secure log from an unknown ip address trying to get in and run rsync but since there is no config file it wont run

What does rsync do anyway?

rsync is a program that can efficiently sync up two directory trees. it's quite handy for creating mirrors or doing backups. e.g. http://rimuhosting.com/support/micro...?t=rsync#rsync

OK cool

So if i hanve a basic lamp email server that does not connect to tother servers what would be runnin rsync besides an attacker? If i dont need it i will uninstall it. Does any other linux red hat program use it? If i un-install it will i make something else not work?
