Question RSS software recommendation?

Hello,

I have an eMachines 566i2 computer. It has a 566 MHz Intel Celeron processor, 7.5 GB HDD, and 32 MB RAM (upgradeable to 256mb; I have not done so). The specs are here.

I'd like to use it to accomplish a specific function.

I need a very lightweight version of Linux that can be installed to a Hard Drive. A GUI would be nice, even very basic.

I then need RSS software that will enable me to do the following:

1. Automatically scroll through headlines and a small amount of article text preview from about 30 websites at a user-adjustable rate.
2. Set the frequency of retrieving RSS updates (2 hrs, 4 hrs, etc.)
3. Only retrieve text from the RSS feeds (no photos, audio, or video).
4. Categorize the various feeds, label them, and possibly color code each by category. Also list the original website domain (not the specific URL for the content).
5. Setting a constant background image would be nice but not really needed.
6. Have a text-only user interface or very basic graphics.
7. Have the ability to select, using either a keyboard or mouse, the various headlines and read the text accompanying them (again, minus multimedia).

Notes:
I'm planning to replace the HDD (the current one is failing I think) and upgrade the RAM to its max. Please post any links to projects you would think suit my needs.

Thank you for taking your valuable time to read this, and thank you in advance to anyone who has information on how to accomplish this.

Best regards,

-3wheels1life

I did a web search for "text-based RSS client Linux" and got this:

I don't know whether "text-based" is where you want to go, but it seemed to me worth a look. I commonly use the Opera browser for my feeds, as nothing else I've found works as well for me.

I like newsbeuter. It might not have everything you're looking for, but it's text based at least.
