i'd like to check rpms.

example: i have checked the sendmail rpm:
#rpm -V sendmail
#S.5....T c /etc/mail/access

#S.5....T c /etc/mail/sendmail.mc

Have you tried to install it? If so, what happened? It's very difficult to spot a problem simply from the filenames.

did you check it immediately after rpm -i or after getting your sendmail functional.

In the latter case, differences are bound to occur as you have modified the config files to suit your environment... talking in the sendmail context.
