RPM system, I am confused

I install things from source, for example libcddb, and it still is showing up as a needed dependency by the rpms that need it. And here is another oddity, something says it needs libc.so.6, I can look at that file in the lib directory, so what's the deal? Is it me or is this rpm system just a bad idea?

I think you have to tell the RPM database where a file is if you do not install the file using the RPM utility. If you type:

rpm --help

i think it will show you the option to load a file into the rpm database, them RPM manager should be able to locate the .so when installing fute files.
