Question RPM Software Intall....failed dependencies??

Hello everybody....

I'm trying to install software that is in RPM format for the first time (I have succeeded in installing tar balls, but not quickly). Anyways, I am in a terminal as a super user, using the command (exact):

rpm -i kmahjongg-2.1.1-1

Now, the system does try for a nano-second or so, then returns the following error (exact):

Install Failed!
error: failed dependencies:
libmng.so.0 is needed by kmahjongg-2.1.1-1
libstdc++.so.2.9 is needed by kmahjongg-2.1.1-1

Now, I have managed to locate a file libmng.so.1.0.0, but not the one referrenced by the error. I assume that I'm just missing this file and would need to download it from the net, but I cannot find it anywhere (yet). Now, I am a great big newbie (but learning) and I have no idea how to go about fixing this little problem of mine.

If it matters, I am using KDE and rpm-version 4.0 (came packaged with my dist.) on Mandrake 8.0

Anyone help?

Dont search for the individual files; it's futile.
Search for the package that contains that file:

Thanks, but....

Thanks for the reply, but there's a problem with that game plan....I have found a package that contains this file, however, when I tried to unpackage it, it yelled at me and refused to work because it said it would be overwriting newer versions of the same files. Is there any way to extract a specific file from an RPM?

No I dont know how; but look at it this way: If you Did extract it, where would you extract it to ??

Best thing is to contact the author of that software and get his advice.

Best of Luck,

Regards,

Ahsan
