rpm problems... is it installed or not?

Hello!
In my continuing efforts to get my GeForce 2 card working under Mandrake 9, I (perhaps foolishly) opted to to use the NVIDIA supplied RPMs for the glx and kernel packages, following along with the README at http://download.nvidia.com/XFree86_40/1.0-4191/README.
As might be expected, now when I 'startx' from the command line all that appears is a cyan dot in the upper left of the screen.

So, I thought I would change the XFree86 config file back to the way it was before, as well as uninstalling the RPMs (so that I could try the tarball method of installing the packages). When I give the command 'rpm -e NVIDIA_GLX-1.0-4191.i386.rpm' I receive the message 'error: Package NVIDIA_GLX-1.0-4191.i386.rpm is not installed'

However, when I run 'rpm -ivh NVIDIA_GLX-1.0-4191.i386.rpm' I receive the message 'error: Package NVIDIA_GLX-1.0-4191.i386.rpm is already installed'.

Can anyone help me understand this apparent anomaly?

thanks in advance,
doug

In the future you can lookup the name the rpm database uses with:
Code:
rpm -qa nvidia
That should return the name of the package
