RPM Problems

I use Red Hat 9 ( Shrike ). Each time I try to open an RPM I see the little window saying reading rpm header.. And after it closes itself and nothing goes on after.. Why ? How can I install rpms ? Already tried numbers of rpm, no one of them working...

Try rebuilding the database:
rm -f /var/lib/rpm/_*
rpm --rebuilddb

Then install from the CLI:
rpm -ivh /path/to/package.rpm

kpackage has been removed since Redhat 8 - So better use the command line version:
rpm -ivh <path to package>
