RPM install/uninstall

Ok, this is alittle confusing to me. Maybe its a stupid question, but I'm confused. I have an rpm, and try to intsall it, it says it is already installed. If I try to uninstall it, it says it isn't installed.

[root@localhost download]# rpm -ivh kernel-wlan-ng-0.2.1-pre14.i686.rpm
Preparing... ########################################### [100%]
package kernel-wlan-ng-0.2.1-pre14 is already installed
[root@localhost download]# rpm -e kernel-wlan-ng-0.2.1-pre14.i686.rpm
error: package kernel-wlan-ng-0.2.1-pre14.i686.rpm is not installed

Just a shot in the dark...
What happens when you try the -U (or --upgrade) option?

There is also a --force option, but I've never used that before, so I don't know of any side effects. If you try it, please make sure it won't mess anything up.
