rpm failed to install

Fedora 9, trying to install skype
downloaded file = skype-2.0.0.72-fc5,i586.rpm
when I double click on the file I get
'Failed to install
you do not have the necessary privileges to install local packets.'

wtf? I am logged in as root, I thought that root was supposed to give you total control over your machine.
I don't like creating other user accounts, there must be a way to install this program as root. Google isn't much help on this so thanks for any pointers.

Try installing the package from the command line using the rpm command. With the command line you have a lot more options available to work around problems like this one. See:

man rpm
