rpm -e not working?
This should be a simple thing (atleast I'm hoping, very new here), although it's giving me quite a bit of trouble. I installed my modem drivers and then found out I did not have setserial. Before I knew it'd be as easy as it was to download and install it, I was getting an error message on boot about setserial not found etc etc, so I deleted the file it was talking about from rc.d, just so I wouldn't get that message any longer. Now I wish to reinstall the driver, so it will now try to do setserial on boot, and do whatever it is it's trying to do..
if I type rpm -i packagename.rpm it says package already installed.
If I type rpm -e packagename.rpm it says package not installed.
I'm very stumped here, and have been trying to get this modem up for a while now and believe I MAY be on the right track, but I haven't been able to find anything online about what to do for this. Thanks in advance!

u should do:
rpm -e package-name
ex.
rpm -i /var/cache/apt/archives/redhat-config-samba_1.0.4-1_noarch.rpm
package redhat-config-samba-1.0.4-1 is already installed
to remove:
rpm -e redhat-config-samba

the filename is LNUX_3ComMdm-1.0-1.i386.rpm
I put in rpm -e LNUX_3ComMdm-1.0-1.i386.rpm and I get the response saying "package is not installed" or something of the like, but if I try to install it it says it already is..
Are you saying I would just put rpm -i LNUX
I'm assuming this because you put rpm -e redhat-config-samba, and stopped at the first underscore.. Thanks for the reply muchly!

when removing you can't use the yada.yada.rpm at the end,(it's no longer an rpm, it's been unpacked and installed) just use the packagename.
rpm -e LNUX_3comMdm

alright, I figured it out, and thanks everyone. One last question, though. Is there a command to see everything that is installed? Also installing the modem drivers didn't seem to help my modem any. I'm lost on how to fix the thing.

To display the list of installed RPMs, type:
Use PageUp and PageDown to scroll and q to quit.
In alphabetic order:
Code:
rpm -qa | sort | less
This one may take a few seconds to display... ... be patient...
As for the modem, I don't know.
