.rpm
im a  can some explain this to me?
i use redhat 9 and sometimes when i launch a rpm file to install something such as xboard the install process starts and it will get to the checking system dependencies and it will just disappear from the screen and it doesnt finish the install

Open a terminal
#rpm -ivh name_of_the_rpm.rpm [to install]
and post the output...

it says that -ivh is an invalid command

that command shouldn't be invalid. you can also try "rpm -Uvh packagename". I am suprised at the number of people using Redhat 9, because it is now so dated and contained a lot of bugs in the package manager.

well, it shouldn't give you a bunch of options, it should install the rpm and show you the progress of the installation.

wait no i got it and the output just says it needs "chessprogram" so at least i know what it is now
