Router (old post kinda got a little off)

Here's what i need from the router software

1. It should be able to run on a p233mmx with 32 mb ram
2. It should run either from a floppy or from a hdd with 630 mb of space
3. It should be able to have one nic for isp, one nic for a siwtch with aprox 4 computers and another nic for another computer.
4. It should be able to act as a firewall for all computers, on both nics
5. It shouldn't crash when using programs such as bt, dc etc.

I think that is all :D

:newbie:

Any linux distribution will do, just don't install everything
(I personally use debian).

Coyote and FreeSco are awesome as well.. I ran Freesco for a long time at home.

It's a floppy distro, very easy to configure.

SmoothWall is the way to go.

Mine is on a P166MMX. Only needs 500meg drive. It's a 35meg download.

It's dead easy to install. Easy to configure via web based GUI.

Has all sorts of cool features, including pretty graphs and stuff. Does intrusion detection with snort.

Easy to open ports for various P2P clients and stuff.

Mine is on dialup (red), but same for cable, dsl, whatever. Mine is connected to a green network of 7 mixed PC's that share internet, DHCP available. You can also have another nic for an orange network, server, whatever.

Smoothwall is what you are looking for. THere are others, but I know smoothwall.

u may wanna have a look at ipcop. its very similar to smoothwall.

ice_world 06-25-2004 01:38 PM

But the orange nic does not get any firewall which i need on all the computers.

I think there is a mod for that. Check out the modification forum on:
