Cool Router/Firewall

Ok, you passed the first test. Now the next question is...........(drumroll) ...........
My Linux 9.0 is working fine. I can access the Internet through my Ethernet Switch, I can change desktops at will, (KDE or Gnome) and I have loaded the router/firewall packages.

Then I - with a very stern look and in an authoritative voice - said to the computer 'now you are a router/firewall', alas, nothing happened.
Jokeing aside, can anyone tell me now how to set up this machine as a router/firewall. That is to be it's only function as my wife and I each have other desktops hooked to this switch through CAT5. My ISP is Comcast broadband.

Thanks all.....

Can you describe your physical network configuration? Typically, you'd have a Linux box with two NICs, one connected to the cable modem, the other connected to a switch, and client machines connected to the switch.

The first place to start is to configure the ethernet adapters on the Linux machine so that both the Internet (via Comcast cablemodem) and the internal network (your and your wife's desktops) can connect to the Linux box.

Yes I have two NIC's in the r/f but have only been using one of them thusfar since all three machine have been going through the switch to the Internet, independently.
I have been able to get our machines, ie: the router/firewall, mine and my wife's machine's to 'see' one another over our ethernet connection but when I plug the cable modem into the second NIC on the r/f ......I get nothing to the outside world.
Does this help?
