rosegarden doesn't see midi ports

Hello,
I am trying to use Rosegarden but it does not see any midi ports.
If I run LMMS it is able to see 20:UA-4F and 14:Midi Through. Jack sees them too.
Furthermore, Rosegarden's transport does not even start, no synths availble.
How to set rosegarden?
(I am using Ubuntu 10.04 LTS - the Lucid Lynx)
Thanks in advance

Cool rosegarden?

I think I can't help you
I always have had problems with Rosegarden with using Audio....

If you want to write music-sheets (I assume that), why doesn't you try MuseScore for example??? I use it now, and I find that one much better (but install good soundfonts!!!)

Not sure if you've already answered your own question from my posting at
http://www.linuxquestions.org/questi...8-04-a-697198/

In case you haven't:
Rosegarden itself does not produce sound, and must tell a separate "midi synthesizer" what sounds to produce. The synthesizer is usually software, though it can be hardware if you have a MIDI card. In Ubuntu 10.04, the synthesizer is by default Timidity, although it doesn't always work well; for example, certain instruments seem to be missing and produce no sound. I use Qsynth/Fluidsynth myself. Also you need to have a soundfont installed.

See the posting listed above (right here on LinuxQuestions) for more details. If you forget the URL address for that post, you can always do a Google search for "rosegarden" and "member success stories" and "site:linuxquestions.org".
