rootpw wrong in RH7.2 Kickstart Install

Hi All,

I have happily used Kickstart installs with RH7.1 for a while now.

With RH7.2, the installation completes fine all except the root password.

I've tried encrypted and plain text in the kickstart file, but once installation is complete and I try to log in as root, the password is incorrect.

Any ideas?

what kind of ideas do you mean?

if you need to know how to get into the system, just boot it with 'linux 1' and set the passwd then.

as for why this happened... no idea what kickstart is...

I'm able to get into the system through various means.

The question is, why is the root password set wrong during a kickstart install.

A kickstart install, is where all the installation instructions (packaging and partitioning, for example) are placed in a kickstart file, either on a floppy or a server on the network. It is then possible to install redhat linux without any operator intervention. One mandatory setting in the kickstart file is the root password. This worked fine with Redhat 7.1, but does not with Redhat 7.2.

Anyone else seen this problem?

Have you check the lenght of the password? It may be restricted to a minimum number of characters.
