Root problem


My shadow and passwd files have no root entry yet I can login as root?

How can this be and how do I re create the root account?

This is my root entry in Knoppix, which is derived from Debian. So, I suspect the are quite similar: root:x:0:0:root:/root:/bin/bash.

Next, run 'pwupdate shadow' to update the shadow file.

TY... I made some mistake via remote and now I have no access to the server before monday howerver.

I did passwd root and changed it to what it is supposed to be however after I could not login...

I will try your approach on monday
