Root Password trouble


Hey guys
I ma running SuSE 9.1 personal. Yesterday i was installing rpms trying to get gnucash to run.suddenly the yast and the terminal quit accepting the root password. If i swithc users and click on the admin box then it will let me login. How do I fix THis?
