root's mail via KMail
I have SuSE 8.1 and had KMail set up so that user bhohl would receive root's mail. I did this as follows:
At Yast2 > Network/Basic > Mail Transfer Agent I set forward root's mail to bhohl. Under KMail > Settings > Configure KMail > Network > Receiving I set Name=bhohl, Location=/var/mail/bhohl, Locking method=Procmail lockfile /var/mail/bhohl.lock. Now for some reason I no longer get root's mail. Could someone please give me some hints on how to trouble shoot this problem. Thanks. |
One more thing. When I try to send a message to root@AMD-900.HOME it gets bounced with the following message "Name service error for amd-900.home: Host not found". Before this problem I did receive e-mail from root (root@AMD-900.HOME). Thanks for any help.

well, have you changed IP addresses or hostname?
|
I have not changed my host name. My current host name.domain is AMD-900.HOME which I verified using Yast > Network/Advanced > Host Name and DNS. My IP has not changed either I use 192.168.0.1 for eth1 (internal). The external interface eth0 get a dynamic address from my ISP.

born4linux,
Thanks for the reply and reminder. I did the following: Edited /etc/sysconfig/postfix via Yast2 Yast2 > System > Editor for /sysconfig > Mail > Postfix Postfix_LocalDomains = "AMD-900.HOME" I now receive root's mail. I think the above solved my problem but I'm not 100% sure of this because SuSE's commented postfix config file includes the following above the paramter Postfix_LocalDomains = "" "Comma separated list of host-/domain names for which postfix should accept mail for. localhost and the own hostname is appended automatically" Based on this comment it seems that I should not need to add Postfix_LocalDomains = "AMD-900.HOME" in order to receive root's mail. But it works now. I was hesitent to post a "solution" that I was unsure of. Bruce |
