Ripping dvd

Hi, I'm trying to rip a dvd I've got, just so that I won't have to put it in the drive each time I watch.

It plays fine in totem, just using the play dvd option.

If I try to play it with mplayer using the play dvd option, or just doing "gmplayer dvd://1" The problem occurs. Mplayer mixes the soundtrack with some other soundtrack on the dvd. Some "how we made the film" stuff i think. As mencoder does this too, it is very hard to get the movie ripped.

All ripping software/guides I can find is about mplayer.

If I try to play the vobs in the /media/dvd folder, it gets really screwed up. Both with totem and mplayer.

I thought that maybe totem was able to rip dvds? Or are there anyone who have had the same problem with mplayer?

Actually I've got the problem on another dvd I'm ripping also, but on that, I was able to play the vobs, so I just copied these.

Just found out, that on the dvd, with which I just copied the vobs, totem plays the vobs correct, but mplayer again mixes the sound with some man speaking about making the film.

I really don't understand this part...

I fact I've also tried winki the ripper, but it was mencoder based too.

I've used vobcopy and DVD::Rip. I like vobcopy since it's very simple to extract plain vobs complete with subtitles and different audio tracks. I've had trouble with dvd::rip when trying to compress, but nobody helped me when I had the problem.

About the weird man speaking, try to see if you can select a different audio channel. I think mplayer might be playing the highest numbered one.
