Ringtone creator?
Hello, i am looking for a program that can be used to cut down an mp3 file to less than 30 seconds so i can use it as a ringtone. On windows, way back when, i used to use VirtualDJ's sample creator function to cut out a segment of the mp3. I am just looking for a program that will be able to use a similar function.

Probably the best known audio program for Linux
http://audacity.sourceforge.net/ |
I've used audacity to cut mp3's into ringtones for my phone. Have to have 'The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly' by Metallica... :)

Nice, this was what i was looking for as well :)

alright, i downloaded it... and i dont mean to sound totally noobish, but i opened my copy of Scapegoat from Atmosphere, and tried to delete the part of the song that i didnt want for my ringtone, but alas to no avail. It will not even allow me to edit the song at all, no new effects, no cutting, no nothing.

Perhaps check the permissions on the file?

This is my favorite cell phone ringtone:

I made a ringtone from Mark Knopfler's "Why Aye Man" using audacity and it's easy to do.

By the way, if you want the functionality (mostly) of Audacity and a slicker package, perhaps even more intuitive, try Ocenaudio.
https://www.ocenaudio.com/en/startpage You can theme Audacity and there are gobs of plugins available, but Ocenaudio can use many of those same plugins and has a slicker UI/UA. (I still prefer Audacity, but that's because I use it multiple times in a week.) |
