Rhythmbox troubles (adding songs to Ipod Classic 5th gen.)

the subject pretty much explains the problem. I have looked here and in many other forums for a fix for rhythmbox not letting me add songs to my ipod and have only found people having problems with the format of the files and such. the songs are all .mp3 so that isn't the problem. when i try to 'drag and drop' song files to my ipod, i am guessing it doesn't recognize the action because they are not loaded onto said ipod. if anyone requires additional information for the problem, please don't hesitate to request it. i like using rhythmbox and would prefer to continue to. Thank you in advance.
