RHEL 5 printing landscape

We are running RHEL 5.1 on the 2.6.18.53 kernel. We are attempting to pass print jobs to a Lexmark printer with the lp -o landscape command. The print jobs continue to print "portrait". Is anyone aware of this issue and is there a work-around to get these print jobs to print in landscape format?

What are you printing, what model printer, and what driver is installed? The fact that you are using lp suggests that you are printing text from a terminal. What happens when you print from a GUI application---eg OpenOffice, GIMP, etc.?

Possibly not relevant, but my impression is that Lexmark comes in dead last in terms of Linux support. (HP being #1)

PS:

"lp -o landscape" works here on an HP LaserJet 2200 with the HP Postscript driver.

Your assumption that we are using a terminal is correct. It is, actually, a thin client printing to a Lexmark T644 with postscript turned on. Only one print job being sent needs to be in a landscape format and we have had no luck getting it to print. We are, also, running some RHEL3UPD2 (kernel 2.4.21-47) where the lp -o landscape option seems to work just fine.

I'm pretty dumb about printing, but I assume that the lp options tie into the printer driver in use. My only other suggestion is the open printing site: http://www.linuxfoundation.org/colla...s/openprinting

Most laserjets can be driven by HP drivers (actually HP laser printer api), they pretty much set the std way back when. Can you associate the Lexmark with an HP printer type and try that?
Alternatively, try asking RH?
