RH 9 question....
hey guys whats the footprint of a rh 9 full (everything) install? Thanks.

From the release notes:
------------------------------ Hardware Requirements The following information represents the minimum hardware requirements necessary to successfully install Red Hat Linux 9: Hard Disk Space (NOTE: Additional space will be required for user data): - Custom Installation (minimum): 475MB - Server (minimum): 850MB - Personal Desktop: 1.7GB - Workstation: 2.1GB - Custom Installation (everything): 5.0GB ------------------------------ Jacob |
I think the actual install size is 4.78g. But 5G is nice round number. Figure on that :)
Definitely 4.something, but close to 5, yes (did a full install myself)
... besides, having a 200GB hard drive can't hurt. :D
damnnnnnnn 5gigs...forget that il stick with 7.2 (i have a 4gb HD)
lol. a 4 gig drive? That's cool linux loves it's legacy hardware.
I have 6.4 and 8g drives both running RH 8. Both are slower than the BigBox but both work flawlessly. Choose custom install and stripout the garbage you don't want. You can always rpm it later if find you missed something. Good Luck! |
I just leave off all the servers and I come out around just under 3G.
lol yea once i did that custom install shit and it didnt install glibc which is ummmm kind of important if you ask me....lol...naw im fine with 7.2 maybe ill just recomplie the kernel
Good chioce. BTW just becasue we are talking footprint what is it for 7.2?
around 2.7 gigs
I think I have had RH8 down to 1.8 on a machine, but that was pretty lean. And as I recall I did run into some issues of needing to rpm in some files to meet basic dependencies whenever I tried to use it for more that just a web portal...anyway, good to know.
1.8 wow thats nice
a footprint is as small as you want it to be, linux won't force you to install anything you don't want, you can install it in 100mb if you really wanted to...
