RH 7.2 Win2K dual boot Grub freezes?

Installing RH 7.2 to a new hard drive on a Windows 2000 machine. Unfortunately the Windows 2000 drive is NTFS. I read somewhere not to touch the MBR since it was NTFS? Therefore during the installation I had RH put Grub in the root partition. Set up ntloader to dual boot to linux or win2k. It loads Win2k fine but when it loads linux the machine freezes with the word GRUB on the screen.
Any ideas? Why isnt grub running or is it that I shouldnt have put it in the root partition since I am using ntloader?
Thanks for any help.
Eric.
