Revert to Previous Kernel

Hello, I am sure this question has been answered many times before, but I searched and couldn't find anything and couldn't think of any other search terms to use.

Anyway, here's my predicament. I recently did an upgrade after installing Fedora Core 4. I upgraded the kernel, along with some other software. Since the upgrade, I have not been able to access my firewire drive. I have tried to locate the issue, and think it may be my kernel. I am at least willing to try and see if it is. However, in order to do this, I need to downgrade to my previously installed version, or to one that will work. I am a newbie and don't know how to do this.

How would I go about either:
1) Reverting permanently to the previous kernel
2) Booting with the old kernel temporarily for testing purposes (if this is even possible)

I am running Fedora Core 4 with KDE. If you need any other info, just let me know.

Any help would be greatly appreciated, as I am making a very serious attempt to rid myself of Windows as much as possible.

Old kernels are not removed when you install new ones, so you can always choose to boot them in the GRUB boot menu. You can see which kernels you have installed with "rpm -q kernel" and remove ones you don't want with "yum remove kernel-<whatever>".

Well, I tried, and found that when it updated my kernel, it removed my previous kernel installation. So, I backed up my home directory and .conf files and redid it from scratch. This time, I'm going to back up my current kernel before updating, so that I can boot to that if necessary to see if that is truly what is causing the issue.

Now to find out how to back up the kernel and be able to boot to it and the new one....
