reupdate rpms
 

Hello

I'm running Redhat 9 and I've updated the system by up2date.
Now I wanted to install new software from the Redhat Cd's with the Redhat installer. By checking the dependencies it says it cannot find some libraries. The libraries are installed but in a newer version . How can I set the update back so that I can install new software?

Try creating a symlink from the new library to the old one.

I found a way myself to install the old packages by rpm -U --force ...rpm
Now the package manager works fine.

not the best solution, what you should have done is went to RedHat Network website and schedule the packages you want to be installed. (and yes, it sux waiting for 6 hours to get one package downloaded, but it's still l33t).
and u can click on packages you want from the website and download the rpm but that would requier you clicking on the save button, double click the rpm, entering your password, clicking ok.... waiting....
and why do all that when u can just schedule it to install on your box after half a day :P

What do you mean with schedule packages?
Can you give me a step by step guide?

just go to the website rhn.redhat.com , poke around the options,
poke on your system (after activating it, which i think happenes almost automaticly), click on install packages option (it will be there in the upper bar).
then u got a list of packages and here you really need to know what your looking for.
just tick the ones you want and click install.
then wait a few hours and it will just be there.
This is not the fastest way surely, u can just download the same package and double click it, but it's a way too.
its usefull when your not at home or if you just switched to windows and wanna add some stuff to your redhat.
