Resolution

Is there any way to make my resolution larger than what Desktop Configuration will let me? I am running SuSE 9.2 with KDE. The largest it will let me go is 1280x1024. I know my graphics card will allow it to go higher because I did it with Gentoo.

you would have to manually put them in xorg.conf/XF86Config-4

Use the 'gtf' program to generate new modelines for your XF86config file.

I think it is in /usr/X11/bin/.

The syntax would be
gtf <horizontal-resolution> <vertical-resolution> <vertical refresh> -x

Make sure that your monitor can handle the new resolution.

If you increase the resolution beyond 1280x1024, you may need to reduce the colors (i.e. use 16 bit instead of 24 bit) so that you don't run of video memory.

Also, use the gtf command on an unloaded machine, for better results. In other words, don't have a lot of programs running.
