Replacing GRUB with LILO?

When I try to boot up my laptop, i get a message telling me that there is an invalid boot sector on my hard drive. I believe this is cause of GRUB, as it did not happen when I installed a distro with LILO as the default boot loader.

I am running Ubuntu at the moment, and I wish to replace GRUB with LILO. I've tried the "man lilo" command, but it was to now help.

So, anyone who could give me some pointers on how this can be done?

Thanks!

http://tldp.org/HOWTO/LILO-2.html

I'd still go with GRUB, though. It's more flexible and I've had a lot less problems with it. Though the Legacy version of GRUB isn't perfect, there's GRUB 2 coming and then again, even Legacy is (in my opinion) better than LILO. For me GRUB worked fine but LILO complained about an "invalid boot sector", so...I'd find out what's really wrong and fix that and go on with GRUB if it's happily installed rather than go ramming about installing LILO, find out it doesn't work either and have an unusable system (note that LILO doesn't have a shell like GRUB, so if it's broken, it's broken and you'll need a livecd or a bootdisk - also LILO needs to be "reinstalled" all the time you make changes, so you'll be rewriting your MBR or partition's first sector often, making it possible that errors occur once in a while).

Thanks for the reply. How can I troubleshoot this problem? What could possibly be wrong? Could a re-install of GRUB work?
