Renaming ~/GNUstep
 

I've searched on Google and gnustep.org, but no luck yet.

Is it possible to change the GNUstep directory for settings from ~/GNUstep to ~/.gnustep or something?

I really don't like seeing a config directory in my home folder.

Why don't you just try? You can always change it back.

I wouldn't have thought so...it's used by things like WindowMaker as a user config directory. If you change the name, it won't know where to find your settings...why not see if wmaker (the executable) can take a parameter telling it where the config files are stored? In that case you could rename the directory to .gnustep and tell it that config files are in ~/.gnustep. I don't know though, I don't use windowmaker.

Hmm, interestingly, I'm now not even sure if I have GNUstep installed...

I would have thought that WindowMaker couldn't run without it, but still...

When I run rpm -qa | grep step, I get no output.

According to various Google searches, it seems that:

* there should be a directory /usr/GNUstep or /usr/local/GNUstep, which isn't there.

* there should be a ton of environmental variables set, none of which are.

There is a directory /usr/X11R6/lib/GNUstep, but there isn't much in there - I'm fairly sure there should be many more files.

That's the only place I can find GNUstep, though.

Komakino: I doubt that wmaker would accept a parameter for that, as from what I understand, every GNUstep program needs to be able to find the same config directory. It seems that there should be a file in a known place to do the job, but nothing I've tried works.
