removing text shadows in kde; removing taskbar color gradient

On my kde taskbar menus, all of the text has shadows underneath. makes reading harder. is there a way to remove the text shadows? not sure where to change the settings. thanks.

also, for the rectangular bars on the tasbar for active programs, is it possible to make it one color like windows 2000 taskbar rather than have it have a color gradient to simulate a glossy/raised surface? thanks.

using mandriva 2006 w/ kde 3.4.

These settings are controllable in the "Appearance/Themes" section of KControl.
