Removing Mysterious Extraneous Account in Ubuntu 12.04

A mysterious extraneous account has just appeared in my Ubuntu 12.04 machine and I would like to remove it. I've also updated the system tonight. Now a red line in the extreme upper right-hand pull-down menu constantly reminds me to Restart to Complete the Updates. But I've restarted the system several times.

Any help will be much appreciated.

those "users" tend to be background Daemons
you DO NEED
"users"
"Audio"
"Video"
"wheel"
and so on ....

I did not remove anything and thank you very much for your kind response. I was able to deactivate the guest account after I luckily managed to switch back to my own account to solve the problem by issuing the following commands (in blue).

1.Edit /etc/lightdm/lightdm.conf.
gksudo gedit /etc/lightdm/lightdm.conf

Then add to the file the following line:
allow-guest=false

2.Exit and save file.

3.Restart lightdm.
sudo restart lightdm

Looking back I now realize that since my restarts were initiated from the guest account, they had no system-wide meaning. I should have shut down the system before restarting to effectively complete the update installation. Now everything is back to normal.
