Removing LILO

I need to remove LILO. I had Mandrake 9.1 installed on my laptop but it did not work well. I do not have a floppy drive and when I go to the Recovey Console it will not take my password for Admin. I have seen a way to bypass the password problem on Microsoft's Website but you need a floppy to use it. Is there a way to remove LILO with out a floppy? For now I just want to run Windows XP Home. Thanks

Have you tried using a blank password (= no password = just hitting enter)?
Anyway, after you get in, use:
/sbin/lilo -už

and it will remove lilo.

Maybe you cold try using some linux distros that you can run from cd and then just mount the drive where your linux is and remove lilo.

Thank you.. But I had removed Mandrake with Partion Magic.. Maybe a bad way to do it.

The good news is that I membered that I had a Win98 CD. I used it to get to a Command line and used Fdisk /mbr. That fixed it. Now WindowsXP boots and LILO is gone.

But do not get me wrong about Linux. I like it alot but it does not like my Laptop. I could never get the sound working right. IRQ conflit. And I could not play games. The Video worked in Xwindows but not for games. There is a Driver I can get but it is like $100.00 for it and I can not spead that kind of money right now.

But I will be back..... For now Windows will have to do.:(

Well, before finalizing this all:

What's your laptop?
Manufacturer/Model? :)

I've run laptops with non-MS-OSes
for over 10 years, and might be able
to help you with getting your box
working properly...

Cheers,
Tink

P.S.: If you're 100% sure you want
to rid it all together, boot of a Win98
CD into commandline, and do fdisk /mbr

Strange problem

I tried doing a fixmbr with a Media Center edition cd and it doesn't confirm that it deleted LILO. I messed up with installing LILO on the wrong HD and now i want to delete it. I check the fixmbr /? in the C:/ that the recovery console to see what to do and did fixmbr C (the drive with LILO) but then when i reboot i see a screen of L and 07 that go to half the screen and it hangs. What could be the problem?

Now i can't install a fresh copy of WinXP MCE on my labtop to try to rewrite the MBR.
