Removing a broken disk from lvm2

I had a 400GB hard drive fail on me today that was part of an lvm2 logical volume made up of it and 3x1TB hard drives. I did a partial mount of the lv to assess the damage, and it wasn't bad. All the important stuff is either on the other disks or backed up. So, I want to reduce the lv and remove this disk from the vg. But I am not entirely sure how to go about this, could anyone tell me how?

You need to move the extents from the physical volume onto the other disks, or a new disk. I've not found a way to "retire" a disk any other way.
Here's a reasonably comprehensive howto.

I don't have them. The disk is broken, I just need to tell lvm2 that it's not coming back and resize the filesystem.
