I have recently switched to Gnome from KDE and I was wondering if this is possible. ..
First thing is first, is there anyway to get rid of those annoying minimize/maximize animations without having to completely recompile gnome?
Secondly, I have a small panel at the bottom of my screen with autohide on, I use it to just put links to stuff I use a lot (terminal, xmms, firefox, gaim, etc) so I can just click them there... however I was wondering if there is anyway to stop the panel from displaying the "Move Handles" (The little blocks that are normally the hide left/right buttons) without having to have the panel expand the entire width of the screen?

Normally, you do this by going into the menues and opening the preferences for the panel. On RH8.0 that would be: "RH-button->Preferences->Look & Feel->Panel". It's going to be somewhat distribution-specific as to what the menus are called but the above ought to get you close enough to figure it out. I know this option is available on SuSE's KDE and Gnome window managers but I know the menu options aren't what I described above. Bottom line: you can do this.
Thanks for the reply,
I am running Fedora Core 2, there is a panel configuration menu but I can't configure turning off the movable handles... I'll keep searching, as long as I know that it is possible.
