I've got a remote share icon on desktop of my IBM thinkpad R40e which I can't remove! I installed mandrake linux 10.0 on another machine and wanted to connect to a remote share on this machine from my laptop.
I screwed something up and want to start anew, but I can't shift this icon. Both machines run mandrake linux 10.0
I'm used to Windows and still getting to understand Linux ~ I've found Mandrake to be the most intuitive distro so far.
Initially the share is unmounted, and I can't get rid of the icon. Ther are no provisions for deleting it.
If I click on it, it mounts the share ~ which would seem to be fine, but I can only see the data on the share and I can't open or modify.
If I try to unmount the share I get two 'unmount' options when I right click on the icon. Clicking either gives me the message from Kio_devices_mounthelper;
umount: it seems /mnt/Documents is mounted mulitple times
Please check that the disk is entered correctly.
My guess is that I have some 'circular event' going on caused by me incorrectly setting up a remote share. That's why I want to remove the icon and start again.
Thank you Vincent,
Sorry for the tradiness in my reply ~ I don't pick up work mail; over weekends. I've done a bit more reading (dangerous to say the least!) and beginning to realize where to look. I'm off to screw up my etc/fstab file, but first I will try your suggestion of umount on the command line and get back with the results.
Thanks again,
Graeme
Vincent,
Looking in my etc/ directory I found a file called fstab.mdkgiorig which upon closer inspection held the original fstab set up. To be on the safe side I renamed my working file to fstab.old and copied the fstab.mdkgiorig file as fstab ~ everything back as I want and the icon has disappeared from desktop. I can now go and happily try again.
Thanks for your help.
Graeme
