remote connect XDMCP server

trying to get a remote session up with fedora core 5(KDE) as the client. the first way i suppose is to turn of my x server and use X -query hostname, but this doesnt work see [1].

1. how to shut down x server? i have kde starting up on boot.
- init 3 hangs midway
- /etc/inittab --> default run level 3 also hangs during boot

second way should be to configure the X11/xdm files in order to get a choice in the KDE login screen for a session with my XDMCP server. didnt find clear enough intructions yet.

any help appreciated :-)

Found a solution:

1. boot to init 1 -level
2. init 3 (you should really be able to run this directly too)
3. X -query [host]
4. ctrl-alt-f2 to switch back to terminal

You can also:

1. allow xdmcp -server with xhost
2. telnet to server
3. start xterm to allow starting gui programs on client (that actually run on server)

Hope some one will get helpfull pointers from this :-)
