Releasing stale NFS Locks

In my Server/Thin Client setup, Stale NFS locks are preventing gconf from starting properly, and thus preventing several thin clients(terminals) from logging in correctly. How can I release these stale NFS locks so the clients will log in properly? According the the GConf documentation, it's a fairly common problem. gconf-sanity-check-1 tells me that the file that must be released is /.gconfd/lock/ior. Any help is appreciated.

Cheers
