ReiserFS Resize, QTParted & SystemRescue Live CD

I am wanting to resize my 79 GB ReiserFS partition to 67GB, to dual boot Windows XP (I fought hard for the last 6 months so I didn't have to, but I really need it for games... DAMN YOU COMPANIES THAT DON'T SUPPORT LINUX!!!!). It's an 80 GB drive (the first GB is a partition for swap).

I started up the System Rescue CD (with fb1024) and ran QTParted (run_qtparted), did all the resizing business, and clicked save. Went through the first step or two in about 20 seconds, then it gave an error "A error happen during ped_file_system_resize call", and the table refreshed to the old partitions. Tried taking 1 MB off, and got the same thing.

I restarted without the CD, to make sure I didn't screw up my data, and had a bunch of problems with the boot stuff, and after about 2 hours working on that I got it fixed, but since all my data was intact I have a feeling it was something I was messing with BEFORE the partitioning.

Isn't the System Rescue Live CD supposed to work resizing ReiserFS partitions? Was there something I did wrong? Any help would be nice

Well....

When I was running Swaret to update to -current, it appears some of the files for lynx were corrupted, because when it started updating lynx, it got a kernel panic.... I restarted, everything seemed fine, ran updatepkg on the lynx tgz in /var/swaret, and the same file caused another kernel panic, but this time when I restarted the drive was corrupted, and unfixeable (most of the boot programs were corrupted, including most of /sbin)...

Booted from a Live CD (Slax) and all my data was still intact, so I borrowed a DVD burner from a friend of mine and I'm now clearing off all my data from the drive that I need to keep, using my 128 pen drive for backing up all the config files I need.

I needed to format anyway, because I didn't use checkinstall at all, and I installed a LOT of small programs so that was a bad idea. At least this time around I'll have a clean install, minus the Windows partition .
